Basically what happens when you take the "I'm not gay, it was just in college" joke and keep making it more and more ridiculous. i always thought it was like “you’re not Fully naked” but obviously it’s a joke line about people being in denial. I wondered why they kept their socks on. When I was 13 years old a buddy of mine tried to convince me to fool around. I wasn't into it, and he told me it's not gay if you're wearing socks.

I didn't believe him, went home. The sock rule is a humorous concept that originated from a quote by Sharken in , "It ain't gay if you're wearing socks". The rule suggests that wearing socks while engaging in homosexual activities exempts one from being considered gay, as they are not fully committed to the act. Basically, it was a running joke on 4chan in the early s to say “it’s not gay if [X]” and the socks thing kind of took over meme culture for a little while.
